A Bit OF History

Bridgeport Historic District
The Bridgeport Historic District is home to a remarkable piece of California's history, the Bridgeport Covered Bridge, which once served as a vital crossing for the toll road connecting the Northern Mines and the Nevada Comstock Lode. The associated ranch and surrounding resources provided essential rest and repair for travelers across the Sierra Nevada. The bridge’s unique combination of truss and arch design made it an engineering marvel of its time. It remains the longest single-span, wooden-covered bridge in the world.
Recognized as a State Registered Historical Landmark (No. 390) on August 26, 1947, this historic site was rededicated in 2014 during the 150th anniversary of California State Parks. The Native Sons of the Golden West, the California State Parks Foundation, and California State Parks have played a vital role in preserving this important landmark for future generations. Adventures With Purpose is proud to visit this historical landmark as one of our beautiful site locations.
